What our advanced practice providers say about working with SUMO

Working with SUMO and my recruiter in particular has been a very positive experience. I had an interview for a locums job in Salt Lake and on my way to the interview I blew a tire. I called Mark (my recruiter) to let him know what had happened and that I may not make the interview. Mark asked me where I was and then drove the 20 miles from SUMO’s headquarters to meet me. He took me to the interview and then back to my car and changed my tire. Once the tire was changed he met me at the worksite and drove me back to my car. He made an invaluable and, in my opinion, successful effort to make everything come together. I tell this to my colleagues and will recommend SUMO to anyone looking to do locums work. – Dr. O

Overall I had a great experience working with my recruiter DeeDee Fullmer and the entire SUMO Medical Staffing staff.  They were always professional and I felt that Dee and her colleagues were very attentive to my needs.  When I had questions or concerns she responded promptly and I felt that she had my interests at heart.  It was a pleasure working with SUMO. – Dr. Zach E.

Working with SUMO Medical Staffing has been one of the most professionally rewarding experiences in my life. In an industry wrought with uncertainty and complexity, Kyle Norris and his team demonstrate the best of integrity, competence and enthusiasm−distinctions which I have rarely seen throughout my travels. They took the time to understand me and my goals and translated that understanding into opportunities benefiting me and the healthcare delivery platforms I matched with. Everything they do−from the credentialing process to the follow up calls and coordination for travel, etc, has been flawless. I look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with SUMO and strongly recommend them to my colleagues. – Dr. Mark Smith

What is an advanced practice provider?

An advanced practice provider is a highly skilled healthcare professional who often works alongside physicians and performs similar tasks. These medical professionals typically consist of nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs).

How do you become an advanced practice provider?

The two most common paths for this role include becoming a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.

How to become a nurse practitioner:

  • To become a nurse practitioner, you need to be a registered nurse, which involves completing a bachelor’s science in nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Next, you need to finish a master’s or doctoral program in nursing (DNP).
  • You must then get your advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license by passing an exam.
  • Finally, you must get certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to start practicing and gaining experience.

How to become a physician assistant:

  • If you’re interested in becoming a physician assistant, you need your bachelor’s degree, as well as a master’s program in physician assistant studies.
  • After this, you need a license to practice. To get this, you need to pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
  • Finally, you need to gain plenty of experience in your program to get hired by a facility.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of an advanced practitioner?
